Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU) is a leading health sciences institution in South Africa, located in Ga-Rankuwa, Gauteng. The university was established when the Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr Blade Nzimande, officially separated the Medunsa Campus from the University of Limpopo, forming an independent, specialised university focused on health sciences.

Admission Requirements:
Admission to SMU is competitive and selection is based on academic performance and capacity per programme. Minimum requirements include:

National Senior Certificate (NSC) with a Bachelor’s pass

English as a language of instruction with at least level 4

Specific APS and subject requirements per programme (see Admission Rules or 2026 Undergraduate Prospectus)
